WILD WEDNESDAY: Ford Ranger Raptor with AT Atlas Camper

WILD WEDNESDAY: Ford Ranger Raptor with AT Atlas Camper

Not every adventure rig needs to be full-size to pack a punch. This week’s Wild Wednesday is all about smart use of space, intentional upgrades, and capability that far exceeds expectations. Our latest build features a 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, a vehicle that already comes trail-ready from the factory, outfitted with a custom-mounted AT Overland Atlas Camper and a purpose-built off-grid power system.

This couple came to us with a clear goal: create a nimble, well-insulated, four-season camper setup that could support longer adventures without needing shore power. With the Ranger Raptor’s mid-size footprint and factory off-road credentials, all we had to do was build a camper system that matched its potential.

AT Overland Atlas: Lightweight and Durable

We’ve always been fans of the AT Overland Atlas. It’s lightweight, all-aluminum, and deploys in seconds, perfect for vehicles like the Ranger Raptor that benefit from keeping weight low and center of gravity balanced. For this setup, the camper came with several factory upgrades to elevate usability and comfort:

  • Front Cab Sliding Window – Allows visibility from the driver's seat to the back of the camper through the optional rear lift gate window.

  • Rear Lift Gate Window – Provides natural light and rear-facing visibility when driving.

  • Tern Overland Side Window – A double-pane acrylic window with integrated blind and bug screen. It swings open from the top and brings much-needed airflow and brightness inside.

  • Tern Fan – Roof-mounted to help circulate air on warmer days or during cooking inside the camper.

  • 185W Solar Panel – Mounted directly on the roof to always keep the electrical system charged.

  • Thinsulate Thermal Tent Liner – A huge value-add. It helps with condensation management and insulates the tent space in colder climates. Whether you're waking up at 10,000 ft or camping in shoulder seasons, this liner makes it comfortable.

  • Awning Brackets – Installed and ready for a future shade system.

Juniper Overland Power System: Off-Grid Ready

To keep the camper powered for multi-day trips, we installed a full 12V electrical system tailored to the Atlas’s compact footprint:

  • Expion360 132Ah Lithium Battery – Lightweight and high-capacity, this Group 27 battery offers plenty of storage while fitting cleanly in the truck bed.

  • National Luna DC-25 Portable Power Pack – A portable yet hardwired unit, this power pack manages charging from the vehicle alternator and solar input. With built-in USB ports, power monitoring, and easy expansion potential, it's a go-to for compact builds.

  • Wiring & Integration – We connected the power pack to the alternator with an ignition trigger, wired in the camper power system, and connected the rooftop solar for automatic charging when parked.

The power system offers the couple a reliable energy supply for lighting, charging, and fan use without ever plugging in at a campsite. It’s designed to be self-sustaining for multi-day adventures and expandable down the road.

Compact Overlanding, Elevated

What makes this build so effective is its efficiency. The Ford Ranger Raptor provides a powerful, midsize platform with excellent trail manners. By pairing it with an Atlas and a smart electrical system, we’ve created a setup that doesn’t compromise, offering comfort, reliability, and four-season readiness in a small, capable footprint.

We love working on rigs like this because they show that you don’t need a full-size truck to build a full-featured overland setup. It’s all about using quality parts, smart design, and understanding your goals.

If you’re ready to build your own adventure rig, no matter the size, let us help make it happen.
